APRIL 23: Caring for the Spirit, Bring a Friend to Church, Holy Humor, and Blessing the Pets!

It’s going to be a VERY FULL day on April 23rd!

Care of the Spirit:  Rev. Jody Wheldon–Adult Study class, 9 AM

Our 9 AM Adult Study class will welcome the Rev. Jody Whelden on April 23.  Jody speaks and writes on the Care of the Spirit.  As a Unitarian-Universalist minister and nationally board-certified chaplain, she has written and spoken about heart centered healing, living dying.  People from all walks of life say they are helped by her work and messages of clarity and peace.  She is passionate about the book she is working on now.  The Spirituality of Illness : Cracking Open, Accelerating Learning and Coming Home.  It will be released soon.

Bring a Friend to Church/Holy Humor Sunday, 10:15 AM

On Sunday April 23 we want to fill our Church with friends and laughter. The Outreach Committee has dedicated the Holy Humor Sunday service as Bring a Friend to Church Day. It is a perfect service to invite that friend that always tells you that if they went to Church, they would come to ours. Let’s show off our good spirit and welcoming nature and bring one or several friends to church Sunday, April 23. Small children are encouraged!

One Sunday in a Midwest City, a young child was “acting up” during the morning worship hour. The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing the battle.       Finally, the father picked the little fellow up and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out. Just before reaching the safety of the foyer, the little one called loudly to the congregation, “Pray for me! Pray for me!”

All joking aside, we want to let the community know where our Church is located and that everyone is welcome. One of the best ways to accomplish these goals is by word of mouth, inviting people we know–and anyone else–to come and experience how wonderful and welcoming our Church is.

Blessing of the Animals: Sunday, April 23, 1 PM

Sunday, April  23rd at 1 pm in the First Congregational UCC parking lot. Sauk County Humane Society will be there to participate with shelter pets and information as well.  Please bring all your mobile beloved pets and animal friends for a blessing. We will celebrate Earth Day and God’s creatures by asking those who are interested to grab a garbage bag after the blessing and collect some garbage around town.
