  • Our worship blends mainline Protestant tradition with creativity and openness. We are a progressive community that honors diversity, uses inclusive language, and celebrates the full
    dignity of all people.

Music is central to our services. Our choir, special music, and hymns from a variety of traditions uplift us, inspire reflection, and bring us together in joy and contemplation.

Services include scripture readings, prayers, a time for children, and a sermon that connects the day’s readings to our lives today. We share joys, concerns, and prayer requests as a community,
and offer gifts to support both local and global ministries.

On the first Sunday of each month, we gather for Holy Communion, an open table welcoming
everyone. Each service concludes with a hymn, a blessing, and music to send us out into the
world. Worship usually lasts about an hour.

  • At First Congregational UCC, Communion is a shared meal of bread and grape juice,
remembering God’s creation, salvation, and Jesus’ last supper. Participants come
forward to receive the elements, with servers assisting those who need. The service
begins and ends with prayers of thanksgiving and may include music or silent reflection.

  • At our church ALL are welcome at Christ’s table. We believe that Christ’s invitation is to all–
from the youngest to the oldest, people of all walks of life, every race, creed, gender, orientation,
class, faith understanding, church membership. Each comes as she or he understands their need,
their thankfulness, their relationship with God and others.

  • Short answer:  Clothing…we’re casual, but not THAT casual!  Seriously, folks come to church in clothing that is comfortable.  For some, that means dressing up in their “Sunday best”.  For others, it is a T-shirt and jeans or shorts.  But, for most, it’s somewhere in between…like “casual Friday” or “business casual” clothing.

  • At our church, creating a welcoming, caring, and inclusive environment for all is a primary
focus. We strive to make worship and fellowship accessible to everyone:

    • Mobility Access: An elevator provides easy access from the parking lot to the upper
worship and fellowship areas, as well as the lower-level fellowship room, kitchen,
classroom, and nursery. Accessible restrooms are available on the upper level

    • Hearing Support: A “T-Coil” loop system transmits directly to most hearing aids.

    • Visual Support: Large-print Sunday bulletins are available each week.

    • Parking: Two handicapped spaces are in the lot, one on 6th Avenue, and three designated
spots for seniors or those with mobility challenges.

  • There is a church parking lot for about 12 cars.  There is abundant additional parking in the municipal lot across the alley from our parking lot, as well as on-street parking.  Handicapped parking:  there are two marked spots in the church parking lot and a marked space on 6th Avenue, closest to the church.

  • We’re easy to find at the corner of Broadway and 6th Avenue (address: 131 6th Avenue), just two blocks north of the courthouse square.  A chiropractic office is beside us on Broadway.  And, no, we’re not the church at 4th & Broadway–that’s our friends at First United Methodist.
